Despite a tough defensive battle throughout the first period, Indiana got on the board in the 14th minute when senior Nikki Orciuch found fellow senior Mallory Reabold wide open in front of the cage. IU entered the half with the 1-0 lead for the sixth time this season.
In the second period, Louisville continued to put pressure on the Hoosiers, but it was not enough as Orciuch outsmarted Cardinal defenders to get an open shot on goal for her fifth score of the year. Six minutes later, the Cardinals got on the board when Lisa Wasser converted a blocked penalty corner shot into U of L's first score of the game. Louisville struck again in the 56th minute when Rachel Overton knotted the game at two off a penalty corner attempt.
With minutes left on the clock, the Hoosiers were determined to win the game in regulation. Schrott netted her third game-winning goal of the season when she flipped a blocked shot past Cardinal goalkeeper Marie-Claire Heller for the 3-2 victory.
Goalkeeper Haley Exner recorded a game-high ten saves. Credited with 12 wins, Exner tied the single-season victories record. Additionally, freshman Danitra Castro recorded her first defensive save of year in the second period.
The Hoosiers hit the road for a tough Big Ten matchup in Columbus, Ohio, on Friday, Oct. 14, against the No. 9 Ohio State Buckeyes at 3 p.m.
