UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Indiana women's soccer team fell to the No.2 Nittany Lions of Penn State tonight, 2-0, at Jeffrey Field in University Park. The Hoosiers contained Penn State early, but were unable to overcome an aggressive Lion squad that fired off 16 shots to just two for the Hoosiers.
The Hoosiers fall to 4-4-1 on the season, 0-1 Big Ten, while the Lions remain unbeaten in 2005 at 9-0, 1-0 Big Ten.
"I was disappointed to give up two goals, one in each half," head coach Mick Lyon said. "I was very pleased overall with how the girls played on defense. If we play like that against the rest of the Big Ten, we will be in the top tier of the conference. We have many positives in negative results that we can take with us into the next match."
The Lions' took the lead in the 37th minute of the match off an unassisted goal from sophomore Aubrey Aden-Buie, her second of the season. The Lion's scoring agenda concluded with an early goal in the second half at the 64th minute by senior Tiffany Weimer, who nets her 13 of the season.
IU's sophomore goalie Stacey Van Boxmeer collected two saves amidst 16 shots by the Lions, while Penn State senior goalie Erin McLeod pulled in two of her own off shots from freshmen midfielder Molly Kruger and forward Molly Beckwith.
The Hoosiers continue their Big Ten road trip with a match at Minnesota on Sunday, Sept. 25, at 1 p.m., at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.
