Hoosiers Topped by No. 23 Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Indiana volleyball team was defeated by No. 23 Minnesota, 3-0 (30-17, 30-24, 31-29), on Friday, Oct. 13, at the Minnesota Sports Pavilion. Indiana is now 10-9 on the season with a 1-6 mark in the Big Ten, while the Golden Gophers advanced to 12-5 with a 6-1 record in conference play.
After being topped 30-17 and 30-24 in the first two frames, IU fought back in game three, but came up just short in a 31-29 decision. Indiana hit .186 in the frame, its highest of the match, while the Gophers hit .113 in the game.
The Hoosiers were led by Juli Pierce's 18 digs on defense, while Kari Morganstein chipped in 10 of her own. The Hoosiers totaled 10.5 blocks as a team in the match, led by Gabrielle Allison's five block assists. Indiana had three different players with six digs to lead the team.
Minnesota had three different players finish in double figures in kills on the match. Meredith Nelson led the way with 16 kills on the contest, while Meghan Cumpston added 14 and Kelly Bowman tallied 11. Bowman and Cumpston each posted double-doubles in the match, tallying 18 and 17 digs, respectively. Rachel Hartmann posted 51 assists in the match for UM.
Indiana returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 15, when it travels to Madison, Wis., for a matchup with Wisconsin. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
