EAST LANSING, Mich. - The No. 13 Indiana field hockey team dropped to 13-4 overall and 3-2 in the Big Ten as conference rival Michigan State upset the Hoosiers, 1-0, on Oct. 21 at the MSU Field Hockey Complex.
A defensive battle from start to finish, the Spartans put the game's only point on the board in the 24th minute. After Floor Rijpma took the initial shot that was saved by junior goalkeeper Haley Exner, MSU's Ashley Pernicano was in position to tip the ball in for the game-winner.
Michigan State outshot the Hoosiers, 9-5, but IU earned more penalty corner opportunities, taking four to the Spartans' three. Offensively, the Hoosiers were led by senior midfielder Rachel Telian and senior back Morgan Miller who each tallied two shots. Additionally, Exner recorded four saves in goal.
Indiana concludes the regular season on the road as it travels to University Park, Pa., to take on No. 6 Penn State on Sunday, Oct. 29. Game time is slated for 1 p.m. EDT.
