Hoosiers Fall To No. 11 Wisconsin, 3-0

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana volleyball team fell to No. 11 Wisconsin, 3-0 (30-21, 30-26, 30-16), on Friday, Nov. 24 in University Gym. The Hoosiers are now 10-21 overall and 1-18 in the Big Ten while Wisconsin improves to 23-6 overall and 15-4 in the conference.
Wisconsin took the first game by a score of 30-21, but the second game proved to be the closest of the three. The Badgers took an early lead at 10-6, but Indiana came back to tie the score at 14-14 on a Badger error. Although Wisconsin opened up an eight point lead at 29-21 and looked to capture the game with one more point, IU rattled off five straight points on a kill by Erica Short, a solo block by Annie Moddrell, a service ace from Caitlin Watts, a kill by Lauren Ditteon and a block by Moddrell and Ditteon, before a kill by Audra Jeffers of Wisconsin gave the Badgers the game. Wisconsin closed out the match by taking the third game, 30-16.
Short was the lone Hoosier to finish in double-figures with 11 kills. Juli Pierce led IU with 20 digs, while Sara Diehl added seven. Moddrell led the Hoosiers on the block, recording one solo stop and three block assists. Short also had two solo blocks while Allison Regas tallied six block assists.
Wisconsin was led by Jeffers, who had 11 kills. Brittney Dolgner and Taylor Reineke each had nine kills for the Badgers, and Jocelyn Wack and Maria Carlini led the way on defense with 13 digs each. Amy Bladow led Wisconsin on the block with two solo stops and six block assists. Reineke also added six block assists in the match.
The Hoosiers will close out the 2006 season on Saturday, Nov. 25, when they host No. 10 Minnesota in University Gym. It will mark the final home match for seniors Diehl and Anne Grabow.
