No. 31 Hoosiers Roll Past Marquette, 7-0

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.- The No. 31 Indiana women's tennis team improved its record to 5-1 on Feb. 11 against Marquette. After winning the doubles point for the fifth time this season, the Hoosiers claimed the 7-0 win over the Golden Eagles.
Against the Golden Eagles, the Hoosiers picked up their fifth doubles point of the season. In the No. 1 position, senior Sarah Batty and junior Laura McGaffigan dominated Maria Calbeto and partner Lauren Little, 8-2. At No. 2 doubles, freshman Sigrid Fischer and sophomore Brianna Williams battled back from a 3-2 deficit to defeat Erin Watkins and Francina Bonnelly, 8-4, to secure the doubles point.
In one of the day's most exciting matches, freshman Marah Calvo and junior Cecile Perton made their debut as a doubles pair. The tightly-contested match ended in a tiebreaker set and an 8-7 Hoosier loss.
In singles, Fischer stepped off the court first. In the No. 5 slot, Fischer made short work of Bonnelly, 6-1, 6-0. Perton, who played in the No. 6 singles position, topped Robin Metzler, 6-3, 6-1. At No. 4 singles, freshman Alba Berdala improved her record at the position with a 6-1, 6-0 straight-set victory over Marquettes' Dominika Dabrowski.
Williams preserved her perfect record in singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Wakins at No. 3. Despite loosing the first set 4-6, McGaffigan at No. 2 singles rebounded to win the next two sets, 6-1, 6-0. In the day's longest match, Batty battled Little to a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles.
In exhibition play, freshman Stephanie Heller topped Kathleen Donovan, 8-1.
The Hoosiers are back in action on Sunday, Feb. 12 for a doubleheader against DePaul at 10 a.m., and Butler at 3 p.m.
