Hoosiers Roll Past UNC-Greensboro, 7-0

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The No. 32 Indiana women's tennis team improved its overall record to 8-2 with a convincing 7-0 victory over North Carolina-Greensboro on Feb. 19 in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Hoosiers, who battled No. 21 Wake Forest to a 5-2 loss the previous day, rebounded to win all six singles matches in straight sets and claimed the doubles point for the ninth time this season.
"We continued to play well in doubles," Indiana head coach Lin Loring said. "Today, we did an excellent job concentrating on playing at our high level and not the level of our opponent. I was pleased with our singles play. We did not lose a set against UNC-Greensboro."
For the fifth consecutive time this season, the Hoosiers overwhelmingly claimed the doubles point by winning all three doubles contests. At No. 1 doubles, the No. 37 ranked Hoosier pair of senior Sarah Batty and junior Laura McGaffigan defeated Lisa Suggs and Emily Wade, 8-2. Sophomore Brianna Williams and freshman Sigrid Fischer topped Lourdes Moran and Sophie Rychlik at No. 2 doubles, 8-2. For the doubles sweep, freshman Alba Berdala and junior Cecile Perton blanked Whitney Miles and Erica Zabkar, 8-0, at No. 3 doubles.
The Hoosiers carried their strong play into singles as they claimed all six singles matches in straight sets over the Spartans. Batty defeated Suggs, 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles position, while McGaffigan topped Wade in the No. 2 slot, 6-1, 6-3. Williams, who has only suffered one loss at No. 3 singles, improved her record with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Miles.
Berdala topped Zabkar at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-2. Fischer won at No. 5 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Moran. Perton rounded out the perfect day with a victory over Rychlik, 6-3, 6-0.
The Hoosiers are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 25 when they play host to No. 22 Tennessee. The match is slated to begin at 10 a.m., at the Indiana Tennis Center.
