BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana baseball team dropped the finale of its four-game set against in-state rival Purdue, 25-8, but still managed a split in the series. The series split also insured Indiana of a half-point in the AT&T Crimson and Gold Cup. Indiana leads the all-sport competition between the two schools, 9.5-5.5.
Hoosier starter Adam Poole (1-1) ran into trouble early on. The senior southpaw allowed five hits, including a solo homer by left fielder Jordan Comadena and a three-run shot by right fielder Neal Gorka, in the opening frame. After the top of the first, Purdue led 4-0.

Watson scored two batters later on a two-out RBI single by freshman first baseman Cameron Satterwhite to make it 4-1.
Watson also notched an RBI triple in the bottom of the sixth, tying the school record for individual triples in a game. Former Hoosier All-American Mike Smith originally set the record with a pair of triples against Cincinnati on April 10, 1991, while junior Steve Head matched it with two three-baggers vs. Fairfield (March 15) earlier this season.
Purdue answered in the second. Freshman Chris Hervey came on in relief of Poole and allowed a grand slam to Gorka, who increased the Boilermaker lead to 8-1.
The Boilermakers increased their lead again in the third by sending 13 men to the plate and recording nine runs and seven hits. A three-run homer by center fielder Ryne White was the biggest blow of the inning. After adding two runs each in the fourth and sixth innings and four runs in the eighth, Purdue had totaled 25 runs.
Indiana managed a big inning of its own in the sixth. Greenspan led off the home half of the sixth by reaching on an error by third baseman Dane Wolfe. Fixler drove Greenspan home with a single to right. The Hoosiers went on to score five more runs in the inning. Freshman left fielder Trevor McConnell tripled to left-center. driving in two runners for his first career hit and RBI. McConnell would later score on Watson's second triple to cap the scoring.
A pair of Hoosiers recorded firsts in the ninth inning. Freshman catcher Billy O'Conner came on in the top half and shut down the Boilermakers. In his first career appearance on the mound, O'Connor threw a scoreless inning of relief and struck out two batters, including Gorka.
Sophomore pitcher Doug Fleenor also made an appearance in the ninth. While pinch-hitting for shortstop Josh Richardson, Fleenor drilled a single to center field for his first career hit in his first career at-bat.
The Hoosiers will continue their 10-game homestand on Tuesday, April 18, when the Indiana State Sycamores visit Sembower Field. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. The Hoosiers will resume their conference schedule when Ohio State comes to Bloomington for a four-game weekend series April 21-23.
