Five Hoosier Men Meet Regional Standard at Indiana Relays

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.-- Seven Indiana athletes met the NCAA regional qualifying standard in their respective events, including Wil Fleming (hammer-62.61m (205-5)), Stephanos Ioannou (110m hurdles-14.27), Ryan Smith (400m hurdles - 52.35), Ryan Ketchum (discus - 52.17m (171-02) and shot put- 18.02m(59-01.50)), David Neville (200m - 20.74), Courtney Johnson (100m hurdles-13.38), and Lorian Price (100m hurdles-13.55) at the third-annual Indiana Relays on Saturday, April 8.
On a cold and windy day, 13 Hoosiers turned in personal best marks. Johnson ran a wind-aided time of 13.38 in the 100m hurdles, Ketchum threw a 54.59m (179-1) in the hammer and Sarah Gilleran cleared a 1.61m (5-3.25) in the high jump.
In the 400m hurdles, both Britney and Courtney Freiberger turned in personal best with times of 1:04.33 and 1:04.85, respectively. Audrey Smoot recorded a 25.69 en route to a third-place finish in the 200m, while Caitlin Lauer earned a personal best in the 200m with a mark of 26.01 and Kyndal Carr picked up a personal record in the 200m with a time of 26.04.
In the men's 200m, Martin Stephen earned a personal best with a fourth-place time of 22.05, while teammate Jacob Moylan took fifth place with a personal best time of 22.20. John Gunnell took sixth with a personal best of 22.20.
Jean Schaffer leapt to a personal best in the long jump with a leap of 4.87m (15-11.75) en route to a fifth-place finish. In the women's pole vault, Jamie Reklau finished second after clearing 3.10m (10-2).
In a meet that featured many high schools across the state of the Indiana, Warren Central won the boys title, while Evanston Township (Illinois) claimed first place on the women's side.
Indiana returns to action when several members of the team will travel to the prestigious Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif., and the rest will compete at the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville Tenn. Both meets will be April 14-15.
