Indiana Dominates Oakland, 3-0

Morgantown, W.Va. - The Indiana volleyball team continued its early season success with a 3-0 victory over Oakland at the West Virginia Tournament. The Hoosiers are now 2-0 on the season while Oakland falls to 0-2.
The first game was a close one, as the score was tied nine times in opening moments. Two-consecutive service aces midway through the game by senior Sara Diehl gave the Hoosiers the 20-18 advantage, but Oakland came back and tied the score four more times throughout the stanza. IU took the lead back for good at 27-26 on a kill by junior Lauren Ditteon and eventually captured the game by a score of 30-26.
The second game was all Indiana from the beginning. The Hoosiers scored the first three points of the game and never looked back, eventually taking the game, 30-18. IU out-hit Oakland, .300 to -.154, in the frame.
Much like the second game, the Hoosiers controlled the third game of the match from the beginning. However, Oakland came back to knot the score at 21-21 before a kill by junior Annie Moddrell gave Indiana back the advantage. Despite Oakland tying it up again, this time at 26-26, the Hoosiers prevailed to take the game, 30-27.
For the match, Ditteon led the Hoosiers with nine kills. She also had just two attack errors in 20 attempts for a .350 hitting percentage, also tops on the team in the match. Sophomore Erica Short chipped in seven kills and junior Gabrielle Allison added five.
Diehl scooped up 18 digs to lead the Hoosiers in the match, and she also tied her career-high with four service aces in the victory. As a team, Indiana had an impressive nine team blocks in the match.
The Hoosiers will return to the court to close out the West Virginia Tournament when they take on host West Virginia at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 26.
