Hoosiers Swept By No. 2 Penn State

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana volleyball team opened its home slate with a 3-0 loss to No. 2 Penn State in University Gym. The Hoosiers are now 10-5 overall and 1-2 in the Big Ten Conference while Penn State is 14-0 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
The Hoosiers held the Nittany Lions close for the beginning moments of each one of the games, but Penn State proved to be too much and took the games, 30-19, 30-23, 30-22.
"Penn State is a very good team, a very solid team," head coach Katie Weismiller said. "We saw a lot of bright spots in the match and we are definitly ready for tomorrow."
Leading the way for the Hoosiers in the match was sophomore Erica Short with 13 kills. She also had nine digs, just missing her fourth double-double of the season. Junior Annie Moddrell had eight kills for Indiana and added five block assists on the defensive side of the ball for IU. The Hoosiers out-rebounded Penn State, six to four.
Christa Harmotto and Megan Hodge led Penn State with 16 kills a piece.
Indiana will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 30 when they host No. 13 Ohio State. The match will be "Jam The Gym" and tickets will cost just $1.
