Three Win At Indiana Open

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Three Hoosiers won events for Indiana as the men's and women's track and field teams opened their seasons at the Indiana Open on Jan. 6.
Sophomore Jeff Coover tied his career high when he cleared 5.10 meters in the pole vault. All-American jumper junior Kyle Jenkins won the triple jump with a leap of 15.51 meters. Senior Kiwan Lawson won the long jump with a distance of 7.49 meters.
In his first collegiate meet, freshman Eric Werskey was second in the shot put, throwing 16.31 meters. Freshman Jared Nuxoll paced all Hoosiers in the high jump, clearing 1.98 meters.
Other strong finishers included junior Keith Heerdegen, who was second in the 200-meter dash in 22.03, and junior Doug Dayhoff, who ran a time of 48.76 to finish third in the 400-meter dash.
Indiana hosts the Indiana Open II, held Saturday, Jan. 13, in Gladstein Fieldhouse in its next meet. Events begin at noon.
