UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Indiana University volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision Saturday night at No. 1 Penn State (30-14, 30-18, 30-23).
Junior Erica Short paced the Hoosiers with nine kills while Freshman Mara Hilgenberg and Senior Juli Pierce led the way with nine digs apiece. Sophomore Kelsey Hall and Freshman Taylor Wittmer each recorded three blocks on the night.
The Penn State offense was hitting on all cylinders through the first two games of the night, hitting over .500 for both as the Hoosiers dropped them both 30-14, 30-16.
Indiana came back much stronger in game three, however, holding a lead in the early goings and limiting the Nittany Lions to a sub-.300 hitting percentage. Unfortunately, a Penn State run mid-way through the third game in which they won nine out of ten points pushed them ahead for good in the 30-23 win.
The Hoosiers return to action next Friday at University Gym for a home match versus Minnesota. IU will then play Iowa in a Saturday night showdown scheduled for a 7 p.m. start as well.
