BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The No. 68 Indiana men's tennis team fell to No. 23 Minnesota, 5-2, on Saturday, March 24, in Bloomington.
In singles, junior Dara McLoughlin defeated Minnesota's (12-3) D.J. Geatz at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 5-7, 6-3. Senior Arnaud Roussel also won his match at No. 4 singles, defeating Mikey Kantar, 6-3, 6-1.
Although Indiana (10-7) lost the doubles point, senior David Bubenicek and sophomore Peter Antons defeated Kantar and Raoul Schwark, 8-4, at No. 2.
Bubenicek fell in singles in three sets, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 to No. 93 Schwark at No. 2 singles. No. 1 singles saw No. 103 Thomas Richter fall to Andres Osorio, 6-7 (1-7), 6-3, 6-3. Peter Antons dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision at No. 5 singles to Nich Edlefsen. Mak Kendall lost at No. 6 singles in a tiebreaker, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) to Brian Lipinski.
"We fought hard, but they were tough and we didn't get it done," head coach Ken Hydinger said. "We needed to have a quicker tempo in doubles. Their No. 5 singles player is exceptional; Peter did a good job adjusting to him, especially because he is left handed. Arnoud is playing well, especially now that we are outdoors. Mak also played well, but the guy made a late comeback."
Indiana returns to the court on Sunday, March 25, against Iowa. Action begins at noon.
