No. 13 Northwestern Bats Too Much For Hoosiers

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Indiana softball team jumped back into Big Ten play on Friday with the first of two games at No. 13 Northwestern and the Wildcat bats led them to an 11-0 win at Sharon J. Drysdale Field. Emily Bergeson logged the lone Indiana hit in the game against Northwestern starting pitcher Lauren Delaney.
The Hoosier (12-29, 2-9 Big Ten) bats struggled against Delaney, one of the top pitchers in the Big Ten, as she moved to 23-6 with the win. Monica Wright got the start for the Hoosiers in the circle and took the loss to fall to 9-12 on the year. She allowed nine runs, eight earned, on nine hits and five walks.
Northwestern (24-10, 10-1 Big Ten) scored once in the first and added two more in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead. In the third inning, Erin Dyer singled to left to drive in one and Emily Haug drove one through the right side of the infield to plate two more runs to bring the NU lead to 6-0.
In the fourth, the Northwestern bats continued to get to Wright, this time using the home run to extend the lead to 11-0. The nation's leading hitter, Tammy Williams, hit the first home of the inning to score the first two runs and Emily Haug followed three batters later with a two-run home run to cap the scoring for Northwestern.
Indiana and the Wildcats will meet again on Saturday at Noon Central time for the second game of the series.
