IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Indiana field hockey team used goals from junior Kelsey Kiper and redshirt freshman Morgan Fleetwood for a 2-1 win over Iowa on the road on Friday, Oct. 2. The Hoosiers improve to 6-4 overall and 1-1 in the Big Ten.
The Hoosiers wasted little time as Kiper scored just 2:57 into the game after redshirt sophomore Brenna Moeljadi took a shot that was saved by Iowa's Kathleen McGraw. Nearly ten minutes later, the Hawkeyes (3-6, 1-1) tied it up as Meghan Beamesderfer scored on a deflection off of a corner shot to knot the score, 1-1.
The two teams traded shots for most of the game until Fleetwood got a pass from Kiper to give the Hoosiers a 2-1 lead at the 60:45 mark and seal the win.
Fleetwood had one goal on a team-high six shots, four of which were on goal. Kiper scored her goal on her only shot and added an assist. Moeljadi took two shots, one on goal. Junior Alex Mann started in goal and recorded four saves in 70:00.
The Hoosiers outshot Iowa, 13-12. The win was the 80th victory of IU head coach Amy Robertson's career.
Indiana returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 3, when it faces Cal on Grant Field in Iowa City at 3 p.m. ET.
