Hoosiers Fall to Purdue, 76-66

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Three Hoosiers reached double-digit points, but it wasn't enough as the Indiana women's basketball team fell at Purdue, 76-66, on Thursday, Dec. 31.
Jori Davis scored 16 points and Aulani Sinclair scored a career-high 16 points off the bench. Jamie Braun added 14 points and a team-high eight assists, seven rebounds and three steals.
The Hoosiers (8-5, 1-1) and Boilers (7-6, 2-1) battled point-for-point in the first four minutes of the game before Indiana used a 7-2 run to take a 17-11 lead with 12:39 on the clock. Purdue answered with an 11-4 run to take a 22-21 lead with 8:03 to go. However, a four-point play from Braun, followed by back-to-back 3-pointers from Davis and Sinclair gave the Hoosiers their biggest lead of the half, 31-24, with 6:08 remaining. The Boilermakers answered again and held IU scoreless for nearly three and a half minutes to take a 32-31 lead with 3:05 on the clock. Braun used a three-point play to snap the Hoosiers scoring drought and regain a two-point edge for IU, 34-32. A 3-pointer from KK Houser at the 2:01 mark regained a one-point lead for Purdue, but another Hoosier three-point play, this time from Sinclair, gave Indiana a 38-35 lead at the break.
The Boilers opened the second half on a 12-5 run to take a 47-43 lead with 15:30 on the clock. Indiana cut the lead to one on a three-point play from Sinclair with 14:17 to go, but a jumper by Purdue's Chelsea Jones increased the advantage back to three, 49-47. The Boilermakers led from there on out, leading by as many as 13 en route to the 76-66 win.
Indiana shot 36.4 percent (20-of-55) from the field on the game and 48.0 percent (12-of-25) from the floor in the first half. Purdue shot 37.1 percent (9-of-23) from the field on the game and scored 22 points off of 24 IU miscues. The Hoosiers won the battle on the boards, 43-41.
Sinclair sank 5-of-11 from the field, including three 3-pointers, and added five rebounds, one assist and one steal. Davis made 4-of-10 from the floor, with a pair of 3-pointers, and tallied four rebounds, one assist and one blocked shot. Braun sank 5-of-12 from the field, including two 3-pointers.
Indiana returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 3, when it will host No. 16 Michigan State at Noon ET in Assembly Hall on the Big Ten Network.
