Hoosiers Fall in Fifth Set at Iowa, 17-15

IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Indiana University volleyball team (12-3, 0-3) erased a fifth-set, four-point deficit for the third time this season, but couldn't finish off the comeback this time in dropping a road match at Iowa (6-6, 1-2), 25-18, 23-25, 25-18, 19-25, 17-15.
It was a historic night for Ashley Benson, however, as she became Indiana University's all-time leader for career blocks. The Bloomington, Ind., native has racked up 562 total blocks thus far in her career, surpassing the Julie Goedde's previous record of 521 stuffs.
Jordan Haverly notched her fourth double-double of the season, picking up 13 kills and 18 digs. Caitlin Cox and Whiney Granado, playing defensive specialist, joined Haverly in the double-digit digs club with 17 and 14 digs, respectively. Ashley Benson was team leader in both kills (18) and blocks (six).
It was all Hawkeyes in the opening set as IU struggled mightily on offense, matching their eight kills with attack errors for a .000 hitting efficiency.
Indiana was able to hold on for a 25-23 victory in set number two to even score at one set apiece heading into the locker rooms for intermission. The Hoosiers held a 24-19 lead before Iowa grabbed four straight points to pull within in a lone point at 24-23. A set by Mary Chaduoing was then put away, however, by Kelci Marschall to seal the deal, 25-23.
Set number three was much the same as the opener, ending in another 25-18 winning tally for the Hawkeyes. History continued to repeat itself as the Hoosiers rebounded once again to take the fourth frame, 25-19. Benson and Haverly combined for a dozen kills to lead the way.
The Hoosiers dug themselves out of a 10-6 deficit in the final frame, knotting the score at 14-14. After fending off an Iowa match point at 14-13, the Hoosiers earned one of their own at 15-14. Becky Walters tallied a kill though, starting a three-point Hawkeye streak to conclude the contest, 17-15.
