ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The final road match of the 2010 regular season did not go Indiana's way as the Hoosiers (19-11, 7-11 Big Ten) fell in three sets to #20 Michigan (23-7, 12-6) in Ann Arbor. The final scoreboard tally read 25-22, 25-17, 25-21 in favor of the Wolverines.
Indiana struggled to slow down the opposition's offense with Michigan hitting .276 as a team, compared to .121 for the Hoosiers.
Senior middle blocker Ashley Benson did the most with her limited attack attempts, putting away 10 of 17 swings with just one error for a .529 attacking clip. In addition, Benson paced the Hoosiers with five blocks on the evening.
The Caitlin duo of Cox and Hansen also played well Saturday night, digging 16 and 10 balls respectively. Sophomore Lindsay Enterline made a meaningful contribution to the Hoosier efforts as well, entering the contest in the third frame and posting two blocks and a kill.
Indiana led as late as 19-18 in the opening set and looked to be on their way to a one-set advantage. The Wolverines would have none of that, however, seizing the next five points to go ahead 23-19 en route to a 25-22 winner.
The Hoosiers battled closely for much of the third set as well, owning the lead twice and hanging tough until the very end of the 25-21 defeat.
The match box score is currently available. Due to technical issues, updated season statistics will not be released until Sunday.
Indiana closes out the 2010 regular season next weekend at home, playing host to #9 Illinois and Wisconsin inside University Gym.
