Hoosiers Post Strong Showing in Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Four Hoosiers represented the IU men's tennis team at the Crimson Tide Fall Invitational this weekend, and all four advanced to the semifinals of their respective singles brackets. The Hoosiers finished the weekend 8-4 in singles play and advanced one doubles tandem to the tournament's semifinals.
Josh MacTaggart advanced to the semifinals of the Bear Bryant Draw, defeating UAB's Danny Manlow (6-3, 6-2) and Greg Andrews of Notre Dame (6-4, 3-6, 6-2) before falling to Mateo Fago of Tennessee (6-3, 6-3). Stephen Vogl, competing in the Hannah Draw, defeated Vanderbilt's Alex DiValerio (6-3, 6-3) and Cedric DeZuter of Memphis (4-6, 6-4, 6-0) before a semifinal loss to Sami Ghorbel of Troy (2-6, 6-4, 6-2).
The pair of Hoosiers also advanced to the semis in the White Draw Doubles. The defeated Leonardo Lapentti and Adam Lawton of Virginia Tech (8-1) as well as Cedric DeZuter and KC Griffen of Memphis (9-7) before falling to Ryan Bandy and Sean Tan of Notre Dame in the semis (8-6)
Santiago Gruter defeated Rodrigo Rappaccioli of Tulane (6-1, 6-4) and Patrick Daciek of Virginia Tech to advance to the semis of the Stabler flight. He fell to Charlie Jones of Vanderbilt (7-6, 7-5).
Travis Neilson took out Trey Walston of Alabama (7-5, 6-3) and James Crawford of Tennessee Tech (6-4, 6-1) before running into Jon Pine of Virginia Tech (3-6, 6-3, 6-4) in the semis of the Sheely Draw.
