LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The No. 19 Indiana field hockey team topped Providence, 6-2, in Louisville behind a hat trick from Jaclyn Zamudio. Morgan Fleetwood scored two goals and Emily Bowker netted one goal in the Hoosiers' (9-5) victory.
Zamudio put Indiana on the board in the eighth minute as she tipped in a penalty corner shot from Brenna Moeljadi, giving the Hoosiers a 1-0 lead. Bowker added to it in the 21st minute as she scored from the left side of the circle. Zamudio netted her second goal of the day in the 27th minute as she took a pass from Fleetwood on the left side of the circle to score in the right side of the cage, increasing IU's lead to 3-0.
In the second half, Fleetwood tallied her first goal of the game in the 39th minute as she took a pass from Zamudio into the circle with one defender in her way and scored on a backhanded shot. With Indiana leading 4-0, Providence (4-13) scored two quick goals in the 52nd and 55th minutes to cut the deficit in half, 4-2. However, Fleetwood netted her second goal in the 65th minute as she took a shot from the middle of the circle to increase the Hoosier advantage to 5-2. Zamudio complete her hat trick in the 67th minute as she redirected a penalty corner shot from Moeljadi to give Indiana a 6-2 win.
Zamudio led IU with five shots, four on goal, for three goals. Fleetwood took five shots, four on goal, for two goals and recorded one assist. Moeljadi took four shots, three on goal, and tallied two assists.
Viki Green started in goal for Indiana and recorded three saves in 70:00 minutes.
The Hoosiers outshot Providence, 19-6, and earned 13 penalty corners to the Friars' five.
Indiana returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 23 when it takes on Louisville at 2 p.m. ET at Trager Stadium.
