Hoosiers Beat the Boilers, 6-1

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana men's tennis got its fifth straight win over rival Purdue on Saturday, winning 6-1. IU opens the Big Ten season with a win and moves to 11-4 on the season. The win puts a point on the board for Indiana in the Crimson and Gold Cup series, moving the Hoosiers' lead to 8-5.
Indiana got its customary strong start in doubles play, winning the doubles point for the 12th time in 15 matches this season. Josh MacTaggart and Stephen Vogl won 8-5 at number one and Santiago Gruter and Jeremy Langer took an 8-4 win at number two.
The Hoosiers got straight-set wins at five of six singles matches, dropping only the number five singles match. Langer cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win at number one, Gruter won 6-2, 7-5 at number two, MacTaggart took the 6-4, 6-3 win at number three, Claes Goransson won 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 at number four and Vogl prevailed 6-3, 6-1 at number six.
Now, the Hoosiers hit the road for spring break, playing a pair of matches in Tucson, Ariz., on Tuesday, March 15th, matching up with Arizona and Scottsdale Community College. For complete coverage of IU men's tennis, stay tuned to IUHoosiers.com.
