Young Hoosiers Play at Big Ten Singles

MADISON, Wis. - Indiana men's tennis has been knocked out of the Big Ten Singles Championships, after sending a trio of freshmen to the tournament. Daniel Bednarczyk and Chris Essick each scored their first collegiate victories, and Elliott Yee won his opening match as well before all three fell in second-round action.
Bednarczyk opened his IU career with a win over Harry Jadun of Michigan State, winning 6-3, 6-4 after a first round bye. He fell to Alex Buzzi of Michigan in the round of 32, by a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 score.
Essick won his first IU match, taking out MSU's Christian Roehmer 6-3, 6-3. He then fell to Northwestern's Sidarth Bilaji, the sixth seed in the tournament, by a 6-1, 2-6, 6-3. Essick fell to Aaron Pfister of MSU, the two seed in the tournament, 6-2, 6-0 in the back draw.
Yee defeated Penn State's CJ Griffin 6-2, 6-4 and then fell in the round of 64 to Drew Lied of Michigan State, the 10 seed in the tournament, by a 2-6, 7-5, 6-0 score. Yee then fell to Jonas Dierckx of Iowa 6-0, 6-3 in the Back Draw.
