Hoosiers Fall to No. 2 Ohio State

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana men's tennis (13-4, 2-1 Big Ten, No. 21) fell for the first time in Big Ten play, losing to No. 2 Ohio State. Senior Stephen Vogl scored a victory at number four singles, providing IU's only point in the 6-1 loss.
The Buckeyes held off the Hoosiers in a pair of tightly contested matches at one and two doubles. Isade Juneau and Jeremy Langer led much of the way, but were unable to hold off the No. 1 doubles tandem in the nation, Chase Buchanan and Blas Rola, from an 8-6 win. At two, No. 39 Devin McCarthy and Ille Van Engelen were able to fight off a comeback attempt from Josh MacTaggart and Alastair Barnes to win 8-6 as well.
Vogl scored his first win of the season over a ranked foe, knocking off Van Engelen at number four, 6-2, 6-3. Vogl had two ranked singles wins in 2011, including a win over McCarthy.
Rola, ranked sixth nationally, and Buchanan, ranked 12th nationally, were able to take down Juneau and MacTaggart at numbers one and two, and Langer fell to No. 46 Peter Kobelt at number three. McCarthy, ranked No. 79 nationally, defeated Dimitrije Tasic at number five, and Connor Smith, the only unranked player in the OSU lineup, defeated Will Kendall at number six.
