IU Hits Lights Out to Beat Tech, Win Title

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana Volleyball (5-1) got back on track with a four-set win over Georgia Tech (5-1), winning 29-27, 27-25, 22-25, 25-23. IU got 19 kills from Jordan Haverly and 19 digs from Caitlin Hansen in the match. The Hoosiers claimed the Indiana Invitational title with the win, and Haverly, Hansen and Samantha Thrower were named all-tournament, with Hansen taking MVP honors.
Indiana hit .364 in the match with 61 kills. Haverly had 19 kills and 14 digs for her fourth double-double of the year. Hansen tallied for second career-best digs outing in as many matches with 19 and added four assist and two service aces in the match. Thrower had five kills and six blocks in the match. IU got 13 kills from Kelci Marschall and 15 from Jade Henderson in the match, and IU his .364 with 61 kills on the night.
The Hoosiers trailed late in the first but battled back to tie it at 24 before trading points with the Yellow Jackets up to 27. IU then won two straight points to take it 29-27. IU hit .545 in the set with 21 kills. Haverly, Marschall and Henderson all added five kills in the set, with Morgan Leach adding four. Hansen had seven digs in the frame.
In the second, IU came back from a late deficit again. They tied it at 24-24 and went on to win 27-25. Haverly added another five kills in the set, to go along with seven digs. Hansen tallied seven digs in the set as well.
The third saw Tech come charging back, winning 25-22. The Hoosiers outhit the Yellow Jackets narrowly, hitting .353 in the set with 15 kills. Leach had four kills in the set, and Hansen added eight digs.
The Hoosiers were back to their old tricks in the fourth, trailing 17-21, but roaring back to a 23-23 tie. IU won two straight for a 25-23 set win and the tournament title. Haverly had six kills in the set, and was instrumental in closing out the match. Haverly killed a ball for IU's 24th point and was in on the block that sealed the deal.
