ITA Kickoff: Auburn

Hoosiers Fall to No. 21 Auburn, 6-1

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana men's tennis (1-3) fell 6-1 to No. 21 Auburn on Saturday at the ITA Kickoff event at Mississippi State. The 23rd-ranked Hoosiers got a win from Elliott Yee at number six singles and forced the matches at number one, three and four to third sets. The Hoosiers will play the loser of today's match between No. 11 Mississippi State and No. 25 LSU.
In doubles, the Tigers took the point with wins at number one and number two. Dimitrije Tasic and Chris Essick were up 7-4 at number three, but the match was suspended after the doubles point was decided.
In singles play, Yee defeated Joseph Van Dooren 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 at number six. After a tightly contested first set at number one ended with Josh MacTaggart falling 9-7 in a tiebreaker, MacTaggart won the second set 6-2 to force a third, but 74th-ranked Andreas Mies took the third and the match by a final score of 7-6 (9-7), 2-6, 6-3.
At number three, Sam Monette rallied from a 6-3 loss in the first set to take the second 6-4. Lukas Ollert closed it out in the third for a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 victory. Tasic won the first set over Dennis Lengsfeld at number four in a tiebreaker, but Lengsfeld recovered to take the match, 6-7 (3), 6-2, 6-1.
