
Indiana Tops Central Arkansas for Fourth Straight Win

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.- The Indiana women's basketball team improved to 4-0 to start the season, taking down Central Arkansas, 80-53. The undefeated record is the best start for the Hoosiers since the 2006-07 season.
IU had three players score in double figures in the contest. Freshman Larryn Brooks led Indiana with 15 points and sophomore Nicole Bell and senior Sasha Chaplinadded 11 and 10, respectively, in the win.
Indiana's shooting heated up at the 8:30 mark in the first half when Bell hit back-to-back 3-pointers. IU (4-0) then made two more shots from behind the arc in a 31-second span, increasing their lead over UCA (3-1) to nine points.
In her second start of the season, freshman guard Alexis Gassionscored seven of her career-high nine points in the first half.
The 3-point shooting continued into halftime as Brooks hit a shot at the buzzer to go ahead 39-25.
In the second half, IU went on an early 7-0 run led by senior Simone Deloachand Brooks. UCA mustered up a 4-0 run midway through the second, but the Hoosiers countered with a 9-2 stretch.
Freshman guard Karlee McBridescored a career-high eight points on 3-of-4 shooting and a perfect 2-for-2 from three point range.
Deloach and Milika Taufafinished with six points each off the bench. IU's bench scored 37 points compared to 18 from UCA.
Indiana shot 46.2 percent from the field and 47.6 percent from beyond the arc while committing only seven turnovers, the lowest of the season. Continuing their defensive successes, IU held the Sugar Bears to 32.1 percent shooting from the field.
The Hoosiers will continue their home stand on Saturday, Nov. 23, against Butler. That game will tip at 2 p.m. ET in Assembly Hall.
Postgame Notes
• The Hoosiers improved their record to 4-0 to start the season for the first time since the beginning of 2006-07 season.
• Indiana has scored 80 or more points in three of their first four games for the first time since the 1999-00 season.
• IU connected on a season-high 10 3-pointers on 21 attempts (47.6 percent).
• The Hoosiers held Central Arkansas to 53 points after the Sugar Bears came in averaging 78.3 points per game.
• Indiana held Central Arkansas to 2-of-15 (13.3 percent) from behind the arch. Indiana has held its opponents to just 13-of-75 (17.3 percent) from long range all season.
• The Hoosiers received excellent production from their bench, with 37 points. That is the most bench points an Indiana team has earned since Nov. 16, 2011 when they had 44 against Belmont.
• Indiana protected the ball all evening, only giving up seven turnovers. That is the lowest amount of turnovers the Hoosiers have committed since Feb. 11, 2010, when IU had seven turnovers against Iowa.
• IU did not allow a single second-chance point the entire game, despite the Sugar Bear's 11 offensive rebounds. The Hoosiers held a 14-0 advantage in second-chance points.
• Freshman Larryn Brooksscored a game-high 15 points while assisting the ball three times and adding another three rebounds.
• Sophomore Nicole Bellnetted 11 points, shooting 50.0 percent (4-of-8) from the field. She drained three 3-pointers, making it the seventh career game that Bell has hit three or more from behind the arc.
• Sixth year senior Sasha Chaplinwas a perfect 5-for-5 from the field, scoring 10 points and adding four rebounds.
• Senior Tabitha Gerardot was one point and one rebound shy of a double-double with nine points and nine boards, she also added a blocked shot.
• Freshman Alexis Gassionset a new personal best by scoring nine points. She also tallied one rebound and one assist.
• Freshman Karlee McBrideset a new career high as well by contributing eight points.
• Seniors Simone Deloach and Milika Taufanetted six points each. They were also big on the glass, Deloach grabbed nine rebounds while Taufa snaked five boards.
• Freshman Taylor Agler contributed with two assists, two rebounds, and a blocked shot.
