Hoosiers Fall In Three Sets At Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Indiana volleyball team fell in straight sets to Ohio State this evening, 25-19, 25-18, 25-20 to fall to 9-15 on the year and 1-12 in Big Ten action. Ohio State moves to 15-10, 3-10 in conference play.
Amelia Anderson and Morgan Leach paced the Hoosiers with seven kills apiece. Allison Hammond recorded a career-high six kills against the Buckeyes, while Jordan Haverly and Chante George added five kills apiece. Caitlin Hansen had eight digs on the night, while Megan Tallman tallied 30 assists.
Lebo would put the Hoosiers on the board first with an ace on the opening serve. The Buckeyes came back with 7-3 run to jump ahead at 7-4, but a pair of Nwaeze kills and an OSU setting error knotted the score at seven apiece. The Hoosiers would tie it up again at 12-12 with an ace from Hansen, but the home team would string together three straight points, prompting an Indiana timeout with the score sitting at 15-12. The Buckeyes would outscore the Hoosiers 10-7 out of the break to take the opening set, 25-19. Nwaeze hit .500 in the opening frame with three kills on four swings, while Haverly added three terminations and a dig.
OSU opened set two on a 4-1 run, but the Hoosiers would slowly claw their way back to tie it up midway through the frame. Kills from Anderson and a block assist shared by George, Leach and Anderson sent it to 9-9. The score sat deadlocked once more at 10-all after teams exchanged points on kills. Anderson’s tip over the net caught the Buckeyes defense off guard to send the set into its fourth tied score at 14-14. After both teams matched up once more, this time at 15-15, the Hoosiers were outscored 10-3 to give the Buckeyes set two, 25-18. Anderson and George paced the Cream and Crimson in the second frame with four kills, while Tallman dished out 11 assists. Hansen added five digs and Leach tallied a pair of block assists.
The Hoosiers took its first lead in set three with a Nwaeze kill that gave the Hoosiers on top, 6-5. A 17-7 run by the Buckeyes set Indiana back 22-14. After Indiana strung together three unanswered, OSU called timeout with the score sitting at 22-17. The Buckeyes came out of the break with an attacking error that sailed well beyond the service line to cut the home team’s lead to four, and a kill from Allison Hammond brought the score to 23-19, but the Buckeyes would eventually prevail in a match deciding set three, 25-20.
Indiana closes out the weekend when it travels to play No. 2 Penn State tomorrow, Nov. 8. Opening serve is slated for 7 p.m. ET.
