Hoosiers Fall in Tough one to Penn State, 4-3

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana women's tennis found itself in yet another tight match on Friday at the IU Tennis Center. The deciding match came down to a third set tiebreaker as the No. 38 Hoosiers fell just short to No. 37 Penn State, 4-3.
Out of the gate, Indiana's (11-5, 0-2) Shannon Murdy and Carolyn Chupa teamed up to roll in their No. 3 doubles match over PSU's (11-1, 1-1) Sarah Henderson and Jacqueline Zuhse, 8-1. But the Nittany Lions fought back at No. 1 and No. 2 to take the doubles point.
In singles, IU's Alecia Kauss evened the team score with a win at No. 4 over Devan McCluskey, 6-0, 6-2. PSU then struck back with a win at No. 2 to take a 2-1 lead overall.
Indiana'a Carolyn Chupa evened things again as she won in straight sets in the No. 3 position over Zuhse, 6-2, 6-3. Garre then gave Indiana its first advantage in the match with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph over PSU's Carmen Sandor.
Penn State's Marie-Frederique Bedard made it a 3-3 team score as she topped IU's Murdy in straight sets, which set up the No. 1 match to decide the outcome.
Penn State's Petra Januskova, ranked 41st nationally in singles, and Indiana's Leslie Hureau were in a battle. The two players each traded the first two sets. With all eyes on the court, the third and deciding set came down to a tiebreaker as Januskova outlasted Hureau to win it for the Nittany Lions.
Indiana will return to the courts on Sunday, March 24, to battle Ohio State in Bloomington. That match will begin at 11 a.m. ET.
