Hoosiers Beat PSU, Advance at Big Ten Tourney

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Indiana men's tennis (18-13) won its first round match against Penn State in the Big Ten Tournament by a 4-2 score. The Hoosiers won the doubles point and got wins from Josh MacTaggart, Isade Juneau and Chris Essick to take the win.
In doubles, 21st ranked tandem Sam Monette and Juneau took care of business, beating Bryan Welnetz and C.J. Griffin 8-4 at number one. The Hoosiers closed out the point with an 8-2 victory from Dimitrije Tasic and Essick at number three.
In singles, Monette fell to Russell Bader at number two to tie things up, but MacTaggart got a 7-5, 6-0 win over Welnetz at number one to give IU the lead. A 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 win for Roman Trkulja over Daniel Bednarczyk at number five tied it back up for PSU.
The Hoosiers then got wins from Essick, as he beat Chris Young 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 at number six, and Juneau closed it out with a 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 win at number three.
