MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Indiana Volleyball (8-4) fell 3-0 to No. 9 Minnesota (13-1) on Wednesday in the first match of the season for Big Ten Volleyball. The Gophers prevailed (25-14, 25-15, 25-18). Jordan Haverly led the way for the Hoosiers with 10 kills, and Chanté George added a career-high seven.
In the first set, the Gophers showed why they are ranked among the top 10 nationally, hitting .457 en route to a 25-14 win. Indiana got three kills from Awele Nwaeze, and Caitlin Hansen led the way with five digs.
The second set saw the Hoosiers battle to a 12-12 tie before the Gophers hit their stride and pulled away for a 25-15. Indiana got four kills from Haverly in the set, and she added four digs in the stanza as well.
The Hoosiers were far more competitive in the third set, playing to a 20-18 score before Minnesota rambled off the next five for the match. IU got four kills each from George and Haverly in the set.
