BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - A total of 10 victories for the women and 12 for the men propelled the Indiana swimming and diving teams to a sweep of Iowa, Missouri and Illinois in Iowa City, Iowa Saturday afternoon.
The men were 195-102 winners over host No. 21 Iowa and 174-123 victors over No. 7 Missouri. The Hoosiers women topped No. 21 Missouri 170-121, Iowa 170-126, and Illinois 193-103.
The quartet of Brooklynn Snodgrass, Bronwyn Pasloski, Gia Dalesandro and Kait Flederbach opened the day with a win in the 200 medley relay, clocking in at 1:41.22. The men finished second with James Wells, Cody Miller, Steve Schmuhl and Anze Tavcar finishing in 1:29.34.
Lindsay Vrooman opened her sweep of the distance events by taking the 1,000 free in 9:56.57. Haley Lips was third in 10:13.81. Grayson Smith was a winner for the men at 9:27.05, with Bradley Stamper fourth (9:38.69).
Vrooman's second win came in the 200 free (1:48.82), leading a 1-2-3 IU sweep with Cynthia Pammett second (1:50.69) and Flederbach third (1:51.49). It was a 1-2 finish for the men with Jackson Miller's winning time of 1:38.17, and Mike Hurley second (1:39.14).
Justine Ress (55.58) and Allie Day (55.74) went 2-3 in the 100 back, while Wells took the men's title in 47.54, and NCAA B cut. Eric Ress was second in 47.69.
Bronwyn Pasloski finished second in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.76), while Cody Miller led the way for the men with a third-place finish (55.52).
The Hoosiers women went 1-2-3 in the 200 butterfly, with Olivia Barker taking top honors in 2:00.33. Bailey Pressey touched second (2:02.22) and Brenna MacLean third (2:02.25). It was an all-Hoosier affair in the fly as the men went 1-2 with Schmuhl winning in 1:47.36, and Max Irwin second (1:49.14).
A pair of Hoosiers can lay claim to fastest in the pool titles with Flederbach winning the women's 50 free (23.15) and Tavcar taking it for the men in an NCAA B cut and personal-best time of 20.18.
Snodgrass was the top Hoosier female in the 100 free with a second-place time of 51.10, while Tavcar made it a sweep of the sprints with a time of 44.21, his second NCAA B cut of the meet.
Pammett (1:58.84-NCAA B cut) and Allie Day (1:59.76) finished 1-2 in the 200 backstroke, while Eric Ress was the men's winner with an NCAA provisional time of 1:44.70.
In the diving well, Kate Hillman recorded a third-place finish on the 1-meter (276.45) and fourth-place finish on the 3-meter (243.40) for the women. Darian Schmidt led a 1-2 IU finish for the men on the 3-meter, posting a score of 455.75 that is just five points off his school record. Josh Arndt was second with a score of 367.10). The men were 2-3 finishers on the 1-meter with Emad Abdelatif second (341.25) and Schmidt third (335.00).
Pasloski came back with a win in the 200 breaststroke (2:18.30), while Cody Miller was third.
Vrooman picked up her third win of the day with a time of 4:55.13 in the 500 free, with Stephanie Marchuk third (4:59.03). Jackson Miller won the men's 500 free (4:30.37), followed by Irwin in third (4:33.54).
Dalesandro recorded a second-place finish in the 100 fly (54.79) as Barker took third (56.12). Cody Miller won the men's 100 fly in 49.12. Dalesandro wrapped up her day with a win in the 200 individual medley (2:03.80), with Pasloski third (2:05.63). Ress was the winner for the men in 1:48.32.
The women ended the meet as they began, tallying a win in the 400 freestyle relay with Pammett, Lips, Flederbach and Snodgrass finishing in 3:25.14. The men were also winners in the 400 free relay as Tavcar, Wells, Jackson Miller and Hurley clocking in at 2:59.34.
The Hoosier women are back in action next Saturday as they play host to the Purdue Boilermakers at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center starting at 11 a.m. ET.
