IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Junior running back Tevin Coleman continued his standout season, rushing for a game-high 219 yards -- his most in a Big Ten game and the second-highest total of his career -- and three touchdowns on 15 carries, but Indiana fell to 3-3 with a 45-29 setback at Iowa (5-1) on Saturday afternoon.

"Iowa played very well today," Indiana head coach Kevin Wilson said. "They got after us and got a good win. We had a couple opportunities early. They made more big plays than us. The game stats were kind of close, but they had more big plays than us. We played uphill all day. I thought our kids fought hard out there, but we have to do better."

Coleman, who extended nation-leading streaks with his eighth straight 100-yard rushing game and 15th-consecutive game with a rushing touchdown, now has 1,060 rushing yards on the season -- the most ever by a Hoosier in the first six games of a season. Coleman also became the 10th player in IU history to top 1,000 yards in a single season.

"It's a blessing to be able to do that, but we still have more football to play," Coleman said of surpassing the milestone. "We're still going to keep coming and keep running. Really, the thousand yards came from the O-Line blocking and things like that for the team."

Iowa opened the game with 21 unanswered points before an 83-yard rush by Coleman, the longest of his career, put IU on the board in the first quarter.

The Hawkeyes responded with a 60-yard touchdown run of their own on the next play from scrimmage to make it 28-7 at the end of the opening stanza.

Junior quarterback Nate Sudfeld, who suffered an injury in the second quarter and did not return, led IU on a six-play, 86-yard drive and capped it off with a 13-yard passing touchdown to senior wideout Nick Stoner.

Coleman added a 45-yard rushing touchdown to cut the deficit to 28-21, but after Sudfeld went out, Iowa added 10 points for a halftime score of 38-21.

That score remained the same as IU held the Hawkeyes to 45 yards in its first 13 plays of the second half but Iowa found the end zone again with 13:17 remaining in the fourth.

Coleman topped 200 yards rushing on his third touchdown of the game, a 69-yard run. He's reached 150 yards rushing six times in his career. Shane Wynn's two-point conversion run made it a two-possession game and IU got the ball back with just over 10 minutes remaining, but the Hawkeyes forced the Hoosiers to punt and 45-29 held as the final score.

"When Iowa had a chance to make a big play, they did," Wilson said. "They had some nice conversions to keep drives alive and we didn't. Bottom line, they made a lot more plays than we did. We had our chances, but we didn't execute. They made more big plays than us and that's the difference in the final score."

Indiana hosts No. 8 Michigan State at Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 18 (Homecoming) at 3:30 p.m. ET. The game will be nationally televised on ABC or ESPN. Tickets can be purchased by clicking here.
