BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana field hockey team closed out the weekend with a 3-0 loss to No. 7 Louisville on Senior Day at the IU Field Hockey Complex this afternoon.
The loss dropped the Hoosiers to 9-7 on the season and improved the Cardinals to 14-4.
The Cardinals struck early as Alyssa Voelmle found the top of the net off an assist from Elisa Garcia. The goal was Voelmle’s 10th of the season.
Louisville would tack on one more goal in the opening period as Paige Monsen and Mallory Mason found Rachel McCarthy for a score off a penalty corner in the 25th minute.
The Hoosiers did not record a single shot on goal in the first period.
Indiana came out aggressively in the second period, as the Hoosiers earned three penalty corners within the first seven minutes of the half. However, Louisville goalkeeper Sydney King kept the Hoosiers out of the net.
The Cardinals’ final score of the game came when Shannon Sloss took the ball out on a fast-break and snuck past Indiana goalkeeper Maggie Olson on a one-on-one situation.
Olson recorded five saves in the contest, bringing her career total to 237 third all-time in Indiana program history.
Senior Audra Heilman led Indiana in shots on goal, with two in the second period. Sydney Supica, Corinne Karch and Kate Barber also recorded a shot on goal in the final half.
