LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Tenth-ranked Indiana got goals from Grant Lillard, Jamie Vollmer and Andrew Oliver to come home with a 3-0 win over 18th-ranked Louisville on Tuesday night at Lynn Stadium in Louisville, Kentucky.Indiana improves to 7-1-3 on the season with the win, while the Cardinals drop to 5-4-1.
First shot of the match came from Matt Foldesy as he sent his strike wide right of the frame. Femi Hollinger-Janzen put one on frame that was stopped by Louisville's Joachim Ball. Vollmer took a shot from distance in the 17th minute that skipped wide of the goal mouth.
Tanner Thompson had a shot in the 33rd minute that was saved by Ball, Indiana's second attempt on frame in the match.
Lillard gave Indiana the 1-0 lead in the 37th minute as he headed home service from Vollmer. Vollmer's long throw made it into the box untouched, where Lillard headed it back past Ball for his second goal of the season. The assist is the team-best third of the season for Vollmer.
Indiana was almost caught napping in the final minute as a shot from Louisville's Richard Velazco required a diving save from Colin Webb. Webb went down to his left to get his fingers on Velazco's shot for the save.
Stats were even after 45 minute of play with both teams putting up five shots, with three on frame for IU and two for Louisville. Both Webb and Ball had two saves.
Indiana opened the second half with a header from Lillard that required a diving save from Ball. The ball into the box again came on a long throw from Vollmer. In the 48th minute a shot from Thompson on the run hit the side netting.
Indiana added a second goal at 51:42, this time it was Vollmer on the scoring end as he headed home the service into the box from left back Patrick Doody. That is Vollmer's third goal of the season, and the third assist of the year for Doody.
Oliver got in on the scoring at 58:53 with his first of the season, slotting home a ball from Hollinger-Janzen. Hollinger-Janzen made the play happen by taking the ball up the left flank and down the end line, before laying off to a charging Oliver.
It was Hollinger-Janzen's second assist of the season.
Webb came up with another big save, this one in the 78th minute as Velazco broke free for a 1-v-1 opportunity. Velazco tried to shoot across the goal but Webb came out for the punch save.
Hollinger-Janzen had a late shot for Indiana in the 79th minute that he sent high. Webb countered with another spectacular save in the 85th minute, this one on a slip header from Shane Campbell that was parried away.
The Hoosiers finished with 13 shots in the match, while Webb tallied six saves in the match. Vollmer was IU's shots leader with three.
Indiana continues its road swing this Sunday as it travels to Columbus, Ohio to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes. Match time is 2 p.m. ET.
