
Blackmon Leads Indiana Past UNC Greensboro

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. --The Indiana basketball team improved to 5-1 on the year as the Hoosiers defeated UNC Greensboro on Friday night, 87-79. Freshman guard James Blackmon Jr. led the way for Indiana, scoring 24 points and pulling in a career-high nine reboundsAlso hitting double figures for the Hoosiers was Kevin Yogi Ferrell (15), Robert Johnson (11), Troy Williams (11) and Hanner Mosquera-Perea (10).
The Hoosiers jumped to an early 20-11 lead at the 10:21 mark with a12-2 run, headed by five points from Mosquera-Perea.
Johnson hit back-to-back field goals - including his first of three 3-pointers - to close out the first half. Blackmon and Mosquera-Perea each had nine points at the break to lead Indiana to a 50-34 advantage heading into the locker room.
The Hoosiers opened up the second half with a Blackmon layup and free throw, followed by another Johnson 3-pointer to take their largest lead of the game at 56-34 at the 19:22 mark.
UNC Greensboro was able to close the gap with seven second-half 3-pointers, however Indiana sealed the victory at the free throw line.
Ferrell sank nine of his points and went 6-for-7 at the foul line in the final stanza to help the Hoosiers close out the game.
Indiana knocked in 22 free throws, compared to just three for UNC Greensboro. The Hoosiers have made 117 free throws on the season, compared to just 50 from their opponents.
The Hoosiers return to Assembly Hall on Tuesday as they play host to Pittsburgh in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge at 7 p.m.
