Indiana Runs Past Oakland, 88-61

  ROCHESTER, Mich. -- Indiana (10-1) took an early lead and never looked back to defeat Oakland (5-5) on the road on Saturday, 88-61. Michigan native Jess Walter shined in her home state as she led Indiana with a career-high 16 points.
Ten Indiana players found the scoring column in the win. Amanda Cahill achieved her fourth double-double of the year with 15 points and 10 boards. Larryn Brooks also had a double-double performance with 11 points and 10 assists.
The Hoosiers struck early and often, hitting seven of their first eight field goals to build a 16-4 lead in the game’s first 4:35 led by five quick points from Taylor Agler.
Karlee McBride later nailed a trey and just 10 seconds later, Brooks followed with a steal and layup to make it a 31-16 IU lead. The Hoosiers led by as many 18 points in the first half before taking a 46-29 lead into the locker room.
Indiana shot 57.6 percent in the first 20 minutes, including 7-of-14 from long distance.
IU’s Jenn Anderson and Tyra Buss scored the first two buckets of the second half to stretch Indiana’s lead to 50-29 and cap a 9-0 Hoosier run stretching back to the end of the opening stanza.
Indiana cruised the rest of the way.
IU's bench outscored Oakland's reserves 48-10, the best point production for Hoosier reserves so far this season.
Walter shot 6-of-9 from the field, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range to go along with four rebounds and two steals.
McBride was also big off the bench as she tallied 14 points with three boards and two assists. Alexis Gassion added nine points and five rebounds.
The Hoosiers shot 54.5 percent on the day and dished for 25 assists on its 36 made field goals. IU also collected 11 steals and nailed 12 3-point field goals.
Next time out, Indiana will open Big Ten play in Assembly Hall when Rutgers visits Bloomington on Sunday, Dec. 28. That game will tip at 2 p.m. ET.
