BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana men's basketball team picked up its 10th win of the season as the Hoosiers (10-2) defeated New Orleans (3-5) on Monday night, 79-59.
In a game that featured six different Hoosiers score at least eight points, Kevin Yogi Ferrell led Indiana with 17 points, including hitting 3-of-4 from downtown. Also scoring in double figures for Indiana was James Blackmon Jr. (14 points) and Hanner Mosquera-Perea, who recorded 12 points, six rebounds and four blocks.
After New Orleans closed to within 16-13 midway through the opening period, Indiana went on a 7-0 run sparked by a 3-pointer from Nick Zeisloft.
Back-to-back 3-pointers from Blackmon and Ferrell began an 18-0 stretch for the Hoosiers that saw the defense hold New Orleans without a point for the final 6:05 of the opening stanza. Ferrell scored five of those points as he finished the first half with 12 points and the Hoosiers held a 44-22 halftime advantage.
Indiana opened the second period by extending its run to 20-0 before the Privateers hit their first field goal in nearly seven minutes with 19:22 remaining.
The Hoosiers shot 56 percent (14-of-25) in the second half and finished the game at 54.7 (29-of-53) from the field, marking the seventh time this season Indiana has shot better than 50 percent.
A layup and free throw by New Orleans' Nate Frye cut the Indiana advantage to 47-30, but the Privateers would get no closer as Indiana held New Orleans to just 39.7 percent (27-of-68) shooting, including 7.7 percent (1-of-13) from the 3-point line.
The Hoosiers close out the non-conference portion of the schedule on Saturday as they face Georgetown in the Indeed Invitational in New York City at noon.
