
Indiana Defeats Nebraska in Big Ten Opener, 70-65

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Indiana men's basketball team opened its Big Ten schedule with a victory against Nebraska on Wednesday, 70-65. Robert Johnson led the Hoosiers (11-3, 1-0 Big Ten) with 14 points on 55.6 percent (5-of-9) shooting, including three 3-pointers.
Troy Williams scored 13 points on 60 percent (6-of-10) shooting and pulled down six rebounds, while Hanner Mosquera-Perea recorded his first career double-double with 12 points and 10 boards.
After Nebraska (8-5, 0-1 Big Ten) opened up an early 7-2 lead, the Hoosiers went on a 15-1 run sparked by three straight 3-pointers, including two from Johnson. Emmitt Holt capped the stretch with three buckets in a row as Indiana held a 17-8 advantage with 12:57 left in the half.
Freshman James Blackmon Jr.'s second 3-pointer of the night gave the Hoosiers their biggest lead of the game at 36-20 with 5:32 to go in the opening stanza. Blackmon finished the game with eight points and eight rebounds.
Behind 47.1 percent (16-of-34) shooting from field, Indiana took a 40-32 advantage into the break.
The Cornhuskers opened the second half with a 14-4 run to take a four point lead with 15:28 left on the clock.
However, Nebraska's one-point lead at 48-47 would figure to be the Cornhuskers' last advantage of the game as Indiana went on a 23-6 run to grab a 67-54 lead with 4:50 left on the clock. Mosquera-Perea scored nine of his 11-second half points in that stretch to lead the Hoosiers.
Indiana outrebounded Nebraska, 44-31, and pulled in 12 offensive rebounds compared to the Cornhuskers' seven.
Next up for Indiana, the Hoosiers travel to East Lansing to take on Michigan State on Monday at 7 p.m.
