Hoosiers Top Toledo, Fall Against No. 18 Vanderbilt

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 58 Indiana men’s tennis team split their matches in a doubleheader Friday as they fell 4-2 against No. 18 Vanderbilt, but came back to take a 6-1 victory over Toledo.
The Hoosiers (7-5) came out strong and took the doubles points against Vanderbilt. The point came down to the No. 2 double match with the Hoosiers winning at No. 3 doubles and Vanderbilt (8-1) taking No. 1 doubles. Junior Sven Lalich and senior Dimitrije clinched the point for the Hoosiers with an 8-6 victory.
Sophomore Sam Monette gave the Hoosiers early momentum in singles as he defeated the No. 10 player in the country, Gonzales Austin in a back-and-fourth 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 match.
With the Hoosiers leading the match 2-1 Vanderbilt responded taking three matches, two of which came down to three sets to clinch the match.
Against Toledo, the Hoosiers won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to clinch the opening point of the match. The third match was unfinished with Indiana leading 7-6.
In singles freshman Elliott Yee put the Hoosiers up 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory. Sophomore Sam Monette and senior Dimitrije Tasic gave the Hoosiers the third and fourth points to clinch the match with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 singles.
Up next the Hoosiers will battle No. 1 Ohio State on Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the IU Indoor Tennis Center.
