Indiana Falls to Northwestern in Big Ten Tournament

EVANSTON, Ill. - The seventh-seeded Indiana women's tennis team fell to host and second-seeded Northwestern in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament, 4-1.
IU (19-9) started on the right foot by taking the doubles point. Kayla Fujimoto and Alecia Kauss downed NU's Brooke Rischbieth and Belinda Niu at No. 3, 8-5. Carolyn Chupa and Katie Klyzcek followed with an 8-6 triumph over Veronica Corning and Alicia Barnett in the No. 1 match.
The Wildcats then came alive taking four singles matches at No. 2, No. 5, No. 4 and No. 3 to win the match.
"Our injuries finally caught up with. I was really proud of the effort today," head coach Lin Loring said. "We played with a lot of heart and won the doubles point off a top 15 team. Unfortunately we had to pull some players out of singles and that was too much of an obstacle to overcome. We finished with a winning record in the conference, which is something we can be proud of because we haven't been healthy since we beat Purdue in early March. I think we are two teams away from making the NCAA's. Our seniors go out with wins over our two rivals, Kentucky and Purdue, who will both probably get in. All things considered we probably did as well as we could have this year."
