Hoosiers Conclude Day One at Big Ten Championships

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Junior Evan Esselink battled the wind and rain and a top field and finished fourth in the men's 10,000-meter run on day one of the Big Ten Championships on Friday.
Esselink's time of 29:08.52 was a career-best by 20 seconds and is the fifth fastest 10K in IU school history.
Freshman Amanda Behnke finished in seventh-place in the women's 10K in 34:37.
Through five events of the decathlon sophomore Stephen Keller is in seventh-place with 3596 points and sophomore Dylan Anderson is in eighth-place with 3560 points.
Keller's best point total came in the high jump, where he cleared 2.00m for 803 points. Anderson set a personal best in the long jump with a leap of 6.90m for 790 points. The duo will resume competition and complete the remaining five events, starting at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow with the 110m hurdles.
In the hammer throw redshirt freshman Nakel McClinton finished in sixth-place with a throw of 55.21m (181-1).
Competition resumes tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. with the decathlon 110m hurdles.
