ATHENS, Ohio - The Indiana field hockey team remained undefeated on the season as the Hoosiers shut out Ohio University, 1-0. Junior Nicole Volgraf recorded her fourth goal of the season to lift Indiana to the victory.
The shutout is the fourth of the season and the third in a row for Indiana. The four shutouts so far this year ranks second in program history as the Hoosiers had previously recorded five shutouts in 2003, 2005 and 2006.
For the third game in a row, the Hoosiers were locked in a defensive battle as they did not find the back of the net in the first period.
"It took a while for us to get our flow and we were just a little off in the first half," said Indiana head coach Amy Robertson. "In the second half we just took a big breath, made better decisions and let the game come to us by keeping it simple."
In the 45th minute, Volgraf scored following a scramble by the net after a corner opportunity for the Hoosiers.
Goalkeeper Maggie Olson recorded five saves in her seventh shutout of her career. This is Olson's 23rd career victory, which places her second in program history behind Haley Exner, who had 38 wins from 2004-07.
"Maggie was the key today. She was very composed. She kept the team organized and our backs organized. She's really been the leader we need her to be," said Robertson.
The Hoosiers will open up Big Ten play on the road next Friday as they battle Iowa at 3:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
