Field Hockey Drops Big Ten Opener to Iowa, 4-1

IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Indiana field hockey team dropped its first decision of the season to Iowa, 4-1. The Hoosiers (7-1, 0-1 Big Ten) had been off to a program-record 7-0 start prior to the loss to the Hawkeyes (5-2, 2-0 Big Ten).
After Iowa quickly scored to open up the game, Indiana answered back as Hannah McDermott found the back of the net on a one-on-one situation with Iowa goalkeeper Alexandra Pecora. The score was McDermott’s first goal of the season.
Iowa’s Natalie Cafone netted her first goal of the game with two minutes left in the first period to give the Hawkeyes the 2-1 edge. Cafone added her second goal in the 52nd minute to add onto the Hawkeye’s lead. Cafone paces the Big Ten in goals scored with 13 on the season.
Senior goalkeeper Maggie Olson recorded nine saves in the contest, which moves her into a tie for most career saves with 179.
The Hoosiers travel to Northwestern to take on the Wildcats Sunday at 1 p.m.
