BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- No. 23 Indiana toppled No. 13 Maryland, 89-70, in front of a frenzied sell-out crowd of 17,472 Thursday evening at Assembly Hall.
Their 19th Top 25 win since 2011-12 and the fourth of the season, the Hoosiers drained 60 percent (30-of-50) of their shot attempts, including a 68.2 percent (15-of-22) clip from beyond the arc.
Of IU's 14 3-pointers, Kevin Yogi Ferrell was responsible for seven, matching a career high in triples to lead the home team with 24 points.
James Blackmon Jr. scored 22, Troy Williams had 16 and Collin Hartman knocked in a career-high 15 points for Indiana. Williams led IU in rebounding with seven.
Indiana's first three field goals were 3-pointers, including two treys from Hartman, as the Hoosiers held a 12-3 lead with 17:21 remaining in the opening stanza.
A few minutes later, Hartman surpassed his previous career-high of eight points with another triple to give the Hoosiers a 23-19 advantage with 8:15 left on the clock.
A 7-0 run punctuated by a thunderous slam dunk from Williams pushed the Indiana lead to seven points at 33-26.
Four different Hoosiers scored at least nine points in the first half as Indiana took a 38-35 advantage into the locker room.
Indiana came out hot in the second period as the Hoosiers went on a 13-3 run to go up 49-38 just four minutes into the half.
Ferrell was a perfect 100 percent (5-of-5) from behind the arc in the second half as he extended his streak of consecutive games with a 3-pointer to 50. His final triple of the game gave the Hoosiers their largest lead of the game at 22.
As a team, Indiana 82 percent (9-of-11) from three in the final period as the Hoosiers outscored Maryland in the period, 51-35.
Up next for Indiana, the Hoosiers will hit the road to face Ohio State on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. This is the second time the two teams have squared off this season, with the Hoosiers picking up a 69-66 victory against the Buckeyes on Jan. 10 at Assembly Hall.
