WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Despite 21 points from junior Kevin Yogi Ferrell, No. 22/21 Indiana fell to Purdue at Mackey Arena on Wednesday evening, 83-67.
James Blackmon Jr. also hit double figures for the Hoosiers with 13 points, while Robert Johnson added nine and Troy Williams scored eight points, six rebounds and three rebounds.
After Blackmon scored four of Indiana's first six points of the game to make it a one point game at 7-6 in favor of Purdue, the Boilermakers used a 10-0 run to grab a 17-6 lead with 11:33 remaining.
Behind 63 percent (17-of-27) first half shooting, Purdue held a 15-point advantage with 6:29 to go before a 7-0 Indiana run cut the lead to 30-22.
After taking an 11-point lead into the locker room at halftime, the Boilermakers opened the second half on an 8-0 run to extend their advantage to 46-27.
Ferrell responded by knocking in 10 of Indiana's first 15 second-half points to make it a 10 point game at 54-44.
However, the Hoosiers would get no closer as another 8-0 Purdue run pushed the lead back to 18 points with 8:59 remaining in the game. The Boilermakers sank 16 free throws in the final 6:32 to help seal the victory.
Indiana outgained Purdue on the glass, 34-31, and brought down 19 offensive boards, both of which are conference highs this season for the Hoosiers.
Indiana and Purdue will face off again in a few weeks at Assembly Hall on Feb. 19.
Next up, the Hoosiers return to Bloomington as Indiana plays host to Rutgers at 3:15 p.m. ET. The game will also air live on the Big Ten Network.
