Hoosiers Excel at Indiana Relays

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana track and field team wrapped up day two of the Indiana Relays with several top Big Ten and national performances on Saturday at Gladstein Fieldhouse.
Redshirt sophomore Nakel McClinton had a big personal record in the weight throw. McClinton improved on her career-best of 18.74m to throw 20.08m, the second best mark in IU school history.
Sophomore Tretez Kinnaird came close to his personal record in the 800m run as he won the race in a time of 1:49.80, the third fastest time in the Big Ten this season.
In the men's 5,000m a trio of Hoosiers exceled, running the top three times in the Big Ten this season. Matt Schwartzer won the race as he crossed the finish line in 14:07.30. Evan Esselink was second in 14:09.91 and Jeremy Coughler came in third with a time of 14:12.58. The three times are the 12th, 13th and 14th best in the NCAA this season.
Junior Terry Batemon recorded a personal record in the pole vault coming in second-place in the competition with a clearance of 5.25m, which ties for ninth best in school history.
In the men's 4X800m relay the Hoosiers won the race and improved on their best time this season in 7:35.12. The group of Eric Claxton, Kieran Reilly, Jordan Huntoon and Rorey Hunter own the fourth best time in the NCAA this season.
Up next the Hoosiers go on the road for the first time this season as they travel to South Bend, Ind., for the Meyo Invitational February 6-7, hosted by Notre Dame.
