Barber, Rother Earn Big Ten Weekly Plaudits

The Hoosiers receive multiple weekly honors selections for the second time this season
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University junior Kate Barber and freshman Noëlle Rother received player-of-the-week honors for their performances last weekend, the Big Ten Conference announced today. Barber received the Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week award, and Rother earned the Big Ten Freshman of the Week award.
Barber led the Indiana offense from the backfield this weekend in shutout wins over Ohio State, 3-0, and Penn State, 1-0. Against Ohio State, Barber gave the Hoosiers a 1-0 lead with a high-power shot from a penalty corner, then doubled her scoring total by cleaning up a rebound from a penalty corner in the second half. In the win over Penn State, Barber assisted Sydney Supica on Indiana's decisive goal, which came on an untimed penalty corner on the final second of the first half.
Barber shares the Co-Offensive Player of the Week award with Maryland senior Welma Luus (three goals in a win over Rutgers). Barber joins Maddie Latino as Indiana's Big Ten weekly honorees on offense this season.
Rother recorded her first two career shutouts this season last weekend. Against Ohio State, she made six saves against a Buckeye attack that mustered 16 shots. In Sunday's contest against Penn State, Rother led a strong Indiana defense with six saves while facing 17 shots by the Nittany Lions.
Rother adds this honor to her Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor on September 29. She joins Maryland freshman forward Linnea Gonzales as the only freshmen with multiple weekly honors this season.
Indiana's shutout win over Ohio State was the first of its kind in program history. The weekend's wins gave the Hoosiers their first season with at least four conference wins since the 2009 season.
The Hoosiers are back in action this coming weekend, playing two road games in Maryland and Washington, D.C. On Friday, October 23, Indiana travels to College Park to take on the No. 6 Maryland Terrapins in their final away Big Ten game of the season. On Sunday, October 25, the Hoosiers will square off against the Eagles of American University. Indiana's game against American is their final away game of the regular season.
