Hoosiers Top No. 24 Chattanooga, 54-43

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana women's basketball team outscored No. 24 Chattanooga in the fourth quarter, 19-6, to cap a 54-43 victory over the Mocs in the second round of the Preseason WNIT in Assembly Hall on Tuesday evening.
Indiana (2-0) saw three Hoosiers hit double figures as sophomore Tyra Buss led the way with 16 points and six rebounds, while sophomore Amanda Cahill added 13 points and a team-high seven boards and junior Alexis Gassion recorded 10 points with six rebounds.
After scoring the first bucket of the game, Chattanooga (2-1) held onto the lead for most of the first quarter and took an 11-10 advantage into the break.
A 3-pointer by Cahill gave the Hoosiers their first advantage of the game at the 8:35 mark of the second quarter as the sophomore scored five of her points in the period. Sparked by a Karlee McBride triple and a jumper from Buss, Indiana closed out the quarter on a 5-0 run to bring a 22-18 lead into the locker room.
Indiana opened the third quarter by extending the run to 8-0 on a layup from Gassion and a Cahill free throw to jump to its biggest lead to that point at 25-18 with 8:38 to go in the quarter.
However, Chattanooga would respond as the Mocs sank five shots in a row, sparked by a 3-pointer from Chelsey Shumpert with 5:39 to go in the period, on their way to an 8-4 run and their biggest lead of the game at 35-31.
Indiana then went on a 12-0 run to end the third quarter and begin the fourth, ignited by six consecutive points from freshman Kym Royster. The run was capped by six points from Buss, including a layup and free throw to convert a three-point play. Buss scored 10 of her 16 points in the final quarter while the Indiana defense held Chattanooga scoreless in the final 3:48.
The Hoosiers capitalized on a season-high 18 turnovers from the Mocs, scoring 23 points off the Chattanooga miscues. In addition, Indiana held a 34-20 advantage in the paint.
Up next, Indiana will travel to Chicago on Thursday evening to take on DePaul at 8 p.m. ET in the Semifinals of the Preseason WNIT.
