BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Sophomore Tretez Kinnaird ran the sixth fastest time in the NCAA in the 600m as the Indiana track and field team closed out their final home meet of the indoor season at the Hoosier Hills Invitational on Friday at Gladstein Fieldhouse.
Kinnaird, who holds the Indiana indoor school record in the 600m, won the event in a season-best time of 1:18.05, the third fastest time in the Big Ten and the sixth fastest in the NCAA this season.
In the women’s 600m the Hoosiers swept the top three-places, led by Samantha Gwin in 1:32.26. Brie Roller finished second in 1:32.28 and Taylor Wiley crossed the finish line third in 1:32.61.
The Hoosiers took the top spots in the men’s and women’s 800m run and men’s and women’s 3,000m run.
In the women’s 800m, sophomore Brittany Neeley won the race in a season-best time of 2:11.36. In the men’s race it was freshman Daniel Kuhn who won in a time of 1:51.77. Kuhn currently holds the sixth fastest time in the Big Ten in the 800m, which he set last week at the Meyo Invitational.
In the men’s 3,000m run two Hoosiers had big improvements. Mark Chandler finished second in the race in a personal record of 8:08.16, five second better than his previous best. Chandler now has the sixth best time in the Big Ten in the 3K. Kyle Duvall improved on his best by over eight second as he finished fourth in 8:15.77, now the 14th best time in the Big Ten this season. In the women’s 3,000m run, Brianna Johnson won the race in 9:44.80.
The Indiana men and women won the final events on the track, the 4X400-meter relays. The women’s squad won in a season-best time of 3:46.66, while the men held off a late charge by Louisville to win in 3:13.71.
Up next the Hoosiers will send a limited group to the Alex Wilson Invitational at Notre Dame on Feb. 21 and travel to the Big Ten Championships in Geneva, Ohio, Feb. 27-28.
